There isn’t a clear answer as to whether sweeteners or sugar are more harmful. In normal amounts, both are harmless to the body. However, consuming large amounts of either over a long period can lead to significant health risks.

  1. Sweeteners

Sweeteners are a type of food additive used to enhance sweetness. When used properly, they don’t pose any harm to the body. However, long-term excessive intake of sweeteners can increase appetite, which may lead to higher calorie consumption and potentially cause obesity. It also raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

  1. Sugar

When people refer to sugar, they usually mean sucrose, which is primarily used to provide energy to the body. It is a refined carbohydrate, and everyone needs a certain amount of carbohydrates daily. However, consuming foods high in sugar over time can increase calorie intake and affect the body's glucose metabolism. This can lead to obesity, diabetes, and an increased likelihood of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke, all of which can seriously harm one's health.
